Finished Object Friday – Carson Throw

This post has been 8 months in the making and I am so happy to be able to show off the final results (photo heavy post warning!).  I started knitting this throw as part of a knitalong (KAL) hosted by Eat.Sleep.Knit. (ESK) who put together some lovely colour co-ordinated kits.  I have been knitting this monster of a blanket alongside many other fellow knitters and having monthly goals helped this project continue along its merry way.  It’s so nice seeing all of the finished projects that everyone worked so hard on!

While I haven’t blocked it yet, it is still pretty awesome to see in all of its glory.  Here it is on a queen sized bed and 3 seater couch.

It has been thoroughly quality controlled throughout its production process by my wonderful furry helpers.  Belle, our younger grey schnauzer, has been learning the quality control job from her older sister, Daffy, during the making of this throw.  We even had a guest QC inspector, my lovely long sister, Miss Gracie.

The girls really appreciate that the yarn used for this blanket is 100% merino wool, it must smell delightful!  While I don’t usually recommend 100% wool for a blanket usually due to the extra care required (and price tag!), this blanket will last for years and it is so soft, squishy and warm!

Here are some process photos, this was my first time playing with slip stitch colourwork and it has such a nice result without too much brain power required!

My one modification to the pattern was to add a crochet scalloped border row after the knit lace border.  I had to order one extra skein to finish off my bind off row (ran out of yarn with about 1/3 of the bind off to go) and I wanted to utilize most of the extra skein if I could.  Turns out I finished with 3g of yarn to spare (such a wee amount!).

The scallops look like little ice cream cones in the photo below.

And a few last finished ones with my QC helpers:

Thank you so much for taking the time to take a look!  This was a project that I poured a ton of love and time into!
